Wednesday 8th February - Town Planning

Today's post might be a bit dull and lacking content. We hear the chorus of "How will we tell the difference?". It is R's turn to wake up with the lurgy and after tea and medication she returns to bed until mid morning. As she is slightly better we set out to try and find the local Mercado Municipale which is in San Fernando, the inland end of Maspalomas. There are signposts to it and the route is clearly marked. When we get there we see that it is basically a large roof over a building site.

We drive on and decide to try a proper Spanish supermarket rather than a French or German one. Mercadona is modern, spacious and has Lidl's prices but a much wider range of fresh produce including meat fish and vegetables. Sadly it is well out of walking distance and we hand the car back on Friday morning. We vittle up for the next couple of days. After lunch R retires to her bed again and D catches up on Duolingo which may be a lost cause this week.
After it cools down a little D heads out for a walk to explore the area. Our resort is in an area known as Campo Internacional, adjoining Campo de Golf. The planned hub for this area is a Commercial Centre called Faro 2 which , from a distance, looks like a spaceship. This was clearly an ambitious project, even running to a rather less ambitious mini golf course.
Closer inspection reveals that the Death Star is crumbling somewhat. Once upon a time there were loads of catering choices here but the survivors are a steak house and a rather jolly bar called Cleopatra's.  D even discovers a short cut back to the digs.
R has taken more meds and is a bit better. She has been hankering after croquetas ever since we got here. Mercadona provides these in tuna flavour and we have them for supper with salads.

The visit to a new supermarket meant there was an opportunity to try another bargain beer on the taste test. There is a pattern developing. The supermarket own brands are all 4.8%, inoffensive and around a euro per litre. A cynic might wonder if they are all the same beer.
