Sunday 19th February - Top Cat

There is a bit of excitement in our end of the Cordial Green Golf complex around breakfast time. One of the innumerable cats has climbed one of the very vertical palm trees and got stuck. Eventually a man with an extendable ladder appears and is able to effect a rescue.
As today is Sunday we are going to the seaside, but unlike the last two Sundays we are heading east, rather than west. This means a service bus rather than the shuttle. The 10.33 appears, about 10 minutes late, and we climb aboard. Once again it is the number 30 which does a backstreets tour of Playa del Ingles before setting out up the coast towards Las Palmas. We get off at one of the last stops before the route joins the motorway. San Agustin has its own beach and a shopping centre. There is a subtle difference here, the lingua franca is very much German while Scandinavian languages are also prominent. English takes a back seat, as does Spanish for that matter.
We look for a coffee and find one in a small place where everybody else is speaking German. At least there is shade as it us shaping up to be a warm day today. The coffee comes with a small, hard, but very tasty biscuit made in Asturias in mainland Spain.
We walk down to the seafront. This is the furthest point that D reached on his long walk last week and we agree to walk in the other direction around a rocky headland, separating two sandy beaches. There is a corniche, about 30 feet above sea level, but looking at the surface it appears that the sea gets up to that level sometimes. The rocks just above the water are teeming with small, dark crabs which get bigger and redder as we move east.
We complete the walk round the headland and find a handy bar, again with shade and with perspex screens to keep out windblown sand. A beer seems to be in order. On our way to the seafront we identify a lunch venue. Casa Fani offers some kind of Scandinavian cuisine with three courses + drink deal which appeals. The food isn't very Spanish and possibly not our culinary highlight for this trip. The best part is pud.
The bus home is much less busy although it drops us one avenue further north than is ideal. Back at the ranch R gets in some arty activity.
The beer of the day is Tropical's Premium. Top dollar again and 6.4% but tastes quite smooth.
Nothing distinctive so *** (Out of five). After a big lunch it's pot luck for supper and not bad.

  1. Germans are like elephants- move predictably in a herd. Same location every year, same hotels, All in a group. 🤷‍♂️
