Friday 3rd February - D está constipado

You may have been taken in by a faux ami. I'm afraid that I do not know how to translate that concept into Spanish. Esta constipado translates as 'has a cold' and D has a humdinger that wakes him up in the night. By dawn it has not improved and a search for medication and the Covid test kits ensues. The travelling medications box contains enormous Ameflu tablets that had been purchased in Bharatpur in February 2016 and had a use by date of 07/12/19. The test was done and produced a negative result. Phew!
We scrap today's plan to take a bus ride to Las Palmas and wait to see if the Ameflu prompts a recovery. Eventually it seems to kick in. We opt to stay local and head out to the supermarket via the patch of scrub where we have been seeing birds. Once again we see a few birds, including a whole flock of cattle egrets and this kestrel.

The rogue sensor outside the supermarket claims a temperature of 24°C which is a bit closer to reality. We sort our vitteling but cannot buy in date 'Cold & Flu' type things. The nearest pharmacy is down at Maspalomas Beach which means that D needs to take the shuttle bus. The lady in the pharmacy is very helpful and D emerges 12 euros poorer, equipped with in date medication. It is only a few steps to the municipal bus station where a number thirty is waiting to go. A short €1.40 ride takes D back to base.
D has a research project lined up for this trip. This involves sampling different brands of beer to find a good one. The local supermarket promotes a brand at €0.33 per 33cl that is never available when we visit. We know who to blame. Today's choice is a beer called 'Saturday' which on reflection seems inappropriate for today. So lunch is accompanied by a Victoria from Malaga, which has been previously enjoyed but not by somebody else.

After lunch the day gets even less exciting so , dear reader, you will be spared the minutiae.  Hopefully normal service will be restored tomorrow.
