Monday 30th January - Is it a bungalow?

5 am alarm.

6 am taxi.

7 am in 'Spoons, although we only have tea and toast. Not everybody is being so abstemious as can be seen in the photo.
Edinburgh airport is a bit quieter than the last couple of times that we have flown. Flight LS715 is no nonsense transport from Yorkshire's finest, although we do rather miss the glass of champagne. The investment in extra legroom seats is definitely worthwhile.

We take off in wintry sunshine and a temperature of 8°C. The views of Central Scotland are magnificent until we reach Motherwell where the clouds roll in. The driver tells us that we have crossed the Irish Sea and are heading south over Dublin and Cork. By the time the clouds clear we are out over the Atlantic Ocean and there is nothing to see from our side of the plane.

As we approach Gran Canaria the cloud reappears so we only get a fleeting view of the coastal strip before we land. Immigration and customs are taken in our stride and in no time we are on the coach for our transfer. The road from the airport to our resort, Maspalomas, is motorway standard and the journey takes less than half an hour. We have Les Places du Mort and get a good view. Gran Canaria is not lacking in wind turbines.
A roadside screen tells us that despite the clouds it is 20°C. Result! We are drop off number 4 and get to dismount onto a pedestrian crossing outside the Cordial Green Golf Bungalows. Check in is painless and the half mile walk with luggage to our allotted accommodation bearable. Bungalow 219 is distinguished by having a palm tree growing right in front so the picture has to be from an angle.
Our accommodation consists of a ground floor kitchen/sitting room and a first floor bedroom with bathroom off. How does this qualify as a bungalow? For those who wish to debate how far the living space intrudes into the roofline here is a picture of the row opposite, which is a mirror image apart from the palm tree.
A hectic weekend of babysitting and an early start today have left us a little hors de combat and we limit ourselves to a trip to the onsite minimart which yields the requirements for omelettes and toast (+ Tempranillo). Always travel with a top notch chef.
